The students were reportedly stabbed during a lunch fight at Mergenthaler High School on Thursday April 21, Baltimore School Police told Daily Voice. One victim was reportedly stabbed once and another was stabbed five times, the outlet reports, WBAL reports.
Police were able to handle the situation quickly and both victims are expected to recover. Around the same time, police found another student in a separate part of the school carrying a gun. That student was also taken into custody.
"At Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority," the school said in an email to parents and families. "We work daily to ensure a safe and positive environment for teaching and learning. We are disappointed such an incident occurred and will work even harder to prevent similar occurrences in the future."
The school said no other injuries were reported and "appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken following an investigation of the incident." It is unclear if these situations were unrelated and there was no information yet on what started the fight.
